Happy First Day of Fall, or Autumn if you prefer!

I’m always amazed, looking back, how quickly summer seemed to go. It never fails that I feel not enough patios were visited, friends met or cocktails sipped; but then again there’s fall!

Fall is the perfect time of year for me as I’m a huge fan of temperatures in the 60’s and 70’s. Nights are cozy for firepits, good friends and warm drinks. Soon the striking colors of changing leaves and crisp air will replace the blazing sunshine and whispering wind. Don’t get me wrong, I’m still holding on to every remnant of summer weather by wearing open toed shoes, sleeveless shirts but am now pairing them with pants as an simple way to ease into the layering of clothes about to be needed.

Cheers to welcoming change by saying goodbye to another summer spent and a new fall about to commence.

Go for Gold

I’m certain that years of blood, sweat, tears and perseverance brought these women to where they are today; and boy do they know how to look good in gold!  You don’t have to be a woman either, these men look just as fantastic in their gold accessories too!

Over the years, I had made up my mind that gold was “old fashioned” and wasn’t cool. That somehow I was going to look like a young woman who had been playing in her grandmother’s jewelry box. I certainly wasn’t old and stodgy, I was hip and cool! Up until a few years ago I didn’t purchase, use or wear anything that featured gold coloring; no bracelets, shoes, handbags, drinkware, nothing!  Slowly it crept in. It was allowed because, you know, it was an accent color and not the focal point.

Fast-forward to today and I’ve clearly gotten over my complete ban on gold and have come to embrace, and actually enjoy, making that once accent color a prominent feature in my accessories. Although I still gravitate to sterling and platinum, here are a few of my favorite pieces in rotation today.

Just like the Olympic athletes that are focused, driven and challenge themselves to Go For Gold, you too can approach each day, outfit and preconceived notion with new perspective. Allow an idea or new color to be an accent in your day and closely observe what happens as a result. Just a little bit at a time; I mean let’s not go crazy and, for instance, wear gold from head to toe! In life, unlike the Olympics, the only person you’re competing against is yourself. So go grab some gold, throw it on and make today, and the rest of the week, a gold medal affair!
